The 2014-2015 Season’s first MOSC Chorale concert transports one through our nation’s musical history, from American compositions that captured the deep religiosity of the Revolutionary period to the buoyant rhapsody of the Roaring 20s.

An American Tapestry underscores some of America’s most influential chorale pieces that have, and will continue to, provide the inspirational backdrop for contemporary American composers. The concert highlights some of the earliest American chorale works as well as compositions from the quintessential 20th century American composers such as George Gershwin and Robert Shaw. Among several other great musical pieces, An American Tapestry features Charles Ives’ Psalm 42 (As Pants the Hart), and Leonard Bernstein’s Make Our Garden Grow, from the operetta Candide, which first performed on Broadway in 1956.

About the MOSC Chorale: The Midland-Odessa Symphony Chorale is the principal choral ensemble of the Midland-Odessa Symphony Orchestra. Under the direction of Gregory Pysh, the MOSC Chorale features 95 singers from throughout the Permian Basin, and is accompanied by pianist Shari Santorelli. The ensemble joins with the Orchestra for the annual Holiday Pops concert, and has performed with the Symphony for other significant choral-orchestral works such as Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, which was performed during the 2013-2014 MOSC Season.
